While Americans are increasingly threatened by natural disasters, global epidemics and bioterrorism, the hospitals that stand ready to respond face a crisis of their own: threats to their financial viability through reductions in federal funding.  These cuts represent a very real threat, and could force hospitals to make painful decisions about what services they can continue to provide.
